The musk deer and its plight

Musk deer in Bhutan

On my recent trek through the alpine regions high above Thimphu and Paro, I came across this lovely female musk deer, and i have managed to capture a few shots before it disappeared into the thicket of rhododendrons.
The musk deer live high up in forested and alpine thickets in most part of our mountains in Bhutan but the sad truth behind these lovely solitary animals is, they are being trapped and killed for the musk that is found in adult males, which are commonly used in perfumes.

It is said that the musk deer uses its musky scent to lure mates and detract enemies but it is also because of this very same valuable scent that they are being killed.
